RICHARD II
2017: DRAYTON ARMS THEATRE
CLATTERHOUSE THEATRE’S 2017 production of William Shakespeare’s RICHARD II was a desolate affair. Played on a large white mask painted on the floor with another looming mask over the players, the cast all say on stage for the entire performance giving it a dark and intimate feel. Using german expressionism as a starting point the play felt more like a tragedy than a history and used exaggerated design to complement the subtle and nuanced performances. Richard II was repped with Twelfth Night.
